Teaser Time!

I'm working through a revision of the sequel to Phoenix Awakens and thought I would drop a little bit of info.

In book 2 of The Phoenix, Julia goes to Istanbul. Such a beautiful city!

Fun fact: Istanbul has two bridges that stretch from Europe to Asia. When I was there I walked across one of them a few times just so that I could say I've been to Asia and Europe LOADS of times!

Sunshine 'N Thangs

I was nominated for the Sunshine Award by two amazing people. See my first post about this thang here. I'll be right here.

Now I'm ready to answer the questions from the awesome L.M. Bryski. L. M. Bryski lives somewhere deep in the heart of Canada. She writes things, and is also my Twitter mom. :)
Here are her questions for me:

1. What is your advice to other writers that has helped you?
Definitely let your mom read your first draft of the first thing you write. She is the only one who can tell you that your writing stinks, while making it sound like a work of art. (Thanks, Mom!) And yes, the first thing you ever write will stink.

Next, learn how to write. And remember, this is an ongoing process. I still totally suck at it. I just suck less now.

I hope.

Finally, Find a good critique group, critique partners, betas. Get other writers' take on your story.

2. What was your favourite TV show as a kid?
I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of TV as a kid (great job, Mom!), and we never had cable, but that doesn't mean I didn't have my shows. I think I'll go with Jem and the Holograms for this. I just love the idea of magical jewelry that can bring me whatever I need. Oh, and she got to have PINK HAIR!!!

3. Where in the world would you like to live for a year and why?
Just one location? Hah!
Trying to pick just one location would be like trying to pick a favorite [note correct spelling] child, if I had like 80 children. I have whittled my list down to four.

  1. Paris, because it's beautiful and I would love to work on my French skills.
  2. Cairo, because their food is sooooo gooooood and I would love to work on my Arabic.
  3. Indonesia, because SUN and WARM.
  4. Sao Paulo, because I need to get to South America, and why not Brazil? (I know, I know, Zika virus. But I still wanna go.)

4. Mountain, volcano or cloud. Which one and why?
Volcano. I think. Is this where I would want to live? If I can live in a volcano, I pick that one. Clouds and mountains sound lonely to me. And no, I have no clue why volcanoes would be any different. Volcanoes just sound more interesting to me. They're active! And there's fire. I love being warm.

And if I'm living in a volcano, I obviously have super powers, right? Because in my mind I'm living in an active volcano with molten lava. I don't know what the super power is called when you can live in hot lava, but I want that super power!

5. What is your favourite cereal?
I don't do cereal anymore. It's really bad for you. I prefer musli and plain Greek yogurt for breakfast. But if you force me to choose a favorite [note spelling] cereal, I choose Cocoa Krispies.

6. If you could name a star, what would you call it and why?
I suck at naming things, and shouldn't be allowed to do it. The world is so lucky I don't have kids. My kids are lucky I don't have kids. I probably would have named them Snow Plow and Ceiling Fan. I shouldn't be allowed!

A star? I should name the star after someone I love, or my favorite character in a book, but since I'm evidently naming things after inanimate objects today, I'll just go with a string of words, "Chocolate Kitty Coffee Books."

Why? Because I like all those things.

7. What is your essential item for travelling?
A refillable water bottle.

8. What famous person have you been in the past? Describe how it felt.
A queen's work is never done! I was Queen Elizabeth. Pretty sure. My life was crazy back then, but I loved it. All those suitors, and I was like, "Yeah, no," because I was queen and could do as I liked. I also got to make laws and stuff. Ruling an empire sounds like fun, right? Well it was.

9. Do you believe in magic? Why or why not?
I want to believe, but maybe I don't believe enough because I still cannot fly or throw fireballs. It's frustrating.

10. Agnes says we need you to save the world. How do you do it?
I'll be baking chocolate chip cookies for the rest of my life because cookies and book care packages for everyone!
That's the only way I know how to save the world.

11. What song best describes your current life?
Twenty One Pilots: Stressed Out
"Wish we could turn back time..."

Sunshine 'N Stuff

I was nominated for the Sunshine Award by two amazing people. I don't normally blog, but how could I resist the challenge given by Elaine Witt? And who could even imagine turning down L.M. Bryski? I'm pretty sure both those things are impossible, and I wish to try neither of them so here are my answers to their loverly questions.

...

Wait. I think there are rules I'm supposed to post. Yes! Let me start with those!

The rules for the Sunshine Happy Bloggy Thingy are:
  1. Answer the eleven questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Nominate up to eleven wonderful bloggers and write eleven (possibly fiendish) questions for them to answer.
Okay, enough about rules. Here are my questions and answers from Elaine Witt, a fantasy and romance author who's based in Minnesota, USA. (She's first, not because she's also a Minnesotan, but because she tagged me first. Although, the fact that she's also residing in my home state is pretty awesome.)

So so so! Here are her questions and my answers:
  1. If you could cast the starring role in a movie loosely based on your life (only with dragons and pirates), who would you choose?

         Helena Bonham Carter.
No, I don't think I look like her, but she plays an outstanding nut job, and I fancy myself a bit loopy. And don't you think she could totally slay/train/best all the dragons ever??
  2. Is the pen or sword mightier? Why?
Well, I don't think I could even hold a sword (I hear they're quite heavy). How mighty would I be with a weapon I can't even lift? Not so mighty.     But I can lift a TON of pens all at one time. And I can also write about slaying all types of beasts when I have pens. I'm going with the pen on this one.
  3. You have to pick one food to eat, every day at every meal, for the rest of your life: what is it?
An Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies every day at every meal for the rest of my life?? Heck yes! If I could just figure out how to make that happen without having to buy larger pants all the time, I would totally do it!

  4. You can relive one moment in time: when and why?
The moment I found out a novel I ghostwrote was on the NYTimes Bestseller List. (Yes! For reals! And I'm sorry I can't share which or when or all that.)

Why? Because New York Times Bestseller List!!!!
  5. What book have you re-read the most?
I don't re-read very often because I'm trying to read as many new books as I can. I guess if I have to pick one, it would be Green Eggs and Ham. I definitely read that one a lot.

Wait, is this meant to be a novel I've re-read? If that's the case (and we're not counting any of my or my friends' manuscripts) then I'll have to say A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I love a good dystopia.
  6. What never fails to bring a smile to your face?
There's nothing quite like a good "Nailed It" disaster.
  7. Have you ever heard a song so sad or beautiful it made you cry? Please share.
This one is the most obvious answer.

But if I give it a bit more thought, I guess I'd say Belispeak by Purity Ring is one of my favorites. There's something beautifully twisted about both the music and lyrics. It's magic and nonsense in a way that I love.
  8. Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Hook, or Blue Beard?
I don't really know much about Blue Beard. (Don't hate me, please!)     Something weird happened to Johnny Depp after his, first Jack Sparrow movie. It was like he got stuck in this horrid character that was only mildly funny and not so endearing, and now he cannot play anything else. He really jumped the shark of his career IMHO. So, definitely not Sparrow.      Captain HOOK, it is! I love Peter Pan. It's one of my childhood faves!
  9. Are you a truth, or a dare kind of person? Explain.
100% DARE!!!! I tell the truth all the time, and I'm not really ashamed of anything I've done, so the truth is kinda boring for me. I always love a good dare though. I love pushing boundaries!!
  10. What’s your motto in life?
Everyone needs a good motto. I don't think I have one. I guess I'll make one up. Here it goes:

Do all the things and eat all the chocolate!

Wait. There's no eleventh question. What's the eleventh question????

Oookay, the formatting on this post has gotten all wonky, so I think I'll publish this Sunshine Thing now and post my second one separately.

    Stay tuned!!

Hi!

Just popping out of my writing cave to check in with readers. Book two of the Phoenix series (still doesn't have a name) is in progress! The next installment of Julia's adventures is coming!

I don't have a set release date, however, it looks like it will be this fall. I'll update this site when I know more.

Happy reading!
